We have confirmed that Fantastic Mr. Fox will be released and distributed by the Fox Searchlight division of Fox. Searchlight has focused on “indie” and art house films.
Fox Searchlight distributed Wes’ last film The Darjeeling Limited. Other recent Searchlight films include Slumdog Millionaire (2008), Juno (2007), and Little Miss Sunshine (2006).

well, only that it makes it less likely i’ll be able to continue my obsessive criterion collection.
I think that probably means they’ll be aiming at a higher age range than children. That’s probably good for the quality of film, but bad for uncle’s who want to be cool and take their niece and nephew to something non-disney or dreamworks. 😉
Every year Searchlight takes one movie and promotes it like crazy (Little Miss Sunshine, Juno, Slumdog Millionaire). Let’s hope this year it’s Fantastic Mr. Fox!
