AutoGuide reports (via The Playlist), that Wes had directed two new commercials fro Hyundai. We also learn from Andrew Weisblum, whose had a hand in editing Wes’ three most recent films (including Moonrise Kingdom), and Darren Aronofsky’s two most recent films. The spots will air during tomorrow’s Oscar ceremony. Watch both ads below, and let us know what you think in the comments.

whoa. These are vintage Wes-ish, except the commercial aspect. Or….. I am confused.
Great commercials,très Wes.
The Halloween kitchen madness commercial is borderline Gondry with the faster early pacing and homemade costumes/drumming, all those retro robots (who I’m also a fan of), excellently detailed, balanced and after some contemplation even the ending seems okay, on a whole it’s awesome.
The second one feels a bit rushed, although the Speed Racer fantasy is funny. Compared to the richly detailed kitchen ad, the less crisp and detailed animated one is also less Wes. It feels like it could’ve been directed by any other director with a retro bent and love of animation. Anyway, I hope he takes the time to direct many more commercials.
