“Mel’s Mini Mini Mart” is a new ad for Oreo that really, really looks like if it were done by Wes Anderson. There is a narrator and the camera often places like in many of the iconic stills from his movies. Even the score could be in one of Wes’ movies. Don’t you agree?
Ad executives at The Martin Agency, who copped to being Anderson fans themselves, said they didn’t purposely set out to mimic the filmmaker’s distinctive tone and tactics. They wanted to make a piece of content that felt more cinematic and less like a typical commercial for Mini Oreos, a product that hasn’t had any advertising for years.
“There were a number of influences and it’s flattering that anyone sees Wes Anderson in it,” White said, “As soon as we wrote it, we just had so much love for it.”
And I gotta admit I love it, too.

A little light today, but still full of love. We’re in between movies and casting and we’re feeling the strain. Hopefully soon, we’ll hear more about the official cast and plot for #8, which starts filming in the fall. Until then, let’s get down to it:
Hello hello! Another Friday, another round-up. Many thanks to my compatriots for posting while I was away. This week brought us some exciting revelations regarding Movie #8, aka The Grand Budapest Hotel. We are thrilled, excited, and just beside ourselves with glee over this news and, as you’d expect, we’ll bring you all of the updates as they come. Now, onward!

One week later and here we are again. News is slowing down, but the fan-art is speeding up. At this point, we’re in a lull, so we’ll take what we can get. There’s just never enough Anderson news for our liking.
Yes, this is another post about something fantastic the A.V. Club did, but it was too good not to share. The A.V. Club recently took a field trip to Houston and visited the school that stood in for Rushmore Academy, St. John’s School.
The video features shot-by-shot comparisons of campus then and now, excellent interviews with a current teacher at St. John’s who was a friend of Wes’s in high school and the owner of Rosemary Cross’s home, and, as a bonus, has shot of Wes’s yearbook from senior year.
The A.V. Club put together a fantastic supercut of seemingly all of the accessories in Wes’s first six films. Every belt buckle, pair of sunglasses, hat, and shoe (or paw) is represented in this three-minute film. It looks like a true labor of Wes Anderson-love, and that’s right up our alley.
It’s here, it’s finally here! It’s opening day! Buy your tickets early and often to support Wes and luxuriate in his newest cinematic masterpiece (and confidentially, as few of our editors have already seen the film, we can confirm it’s as wonderful as you had hoped.)
