MTV’s Josh Horowitz interviewed Law at TIFF, where he’s promoting his new film Anna Karenina, and Law confirmed that he is indeed involved in Wes’ next film The Grand Budapest Hotel, and gives some indication that the floated cast list is likely accurate.

Hello hello! Another Friday, another round-up. Many thanks to my compatriots for posting while I was away. This week brought us some exciting revelations regarding Movie #8, aka The Grand Budapest Hotel. We are thrilled, excited, and just beside ourselves with glee over this news and, as you’d expect, we’ll bring you all of the updates as they come. Now, onward!

Deadline reports that Scott Rudin and Indian Paintbrush will produce Wes Anderson’s eighth film The Grand Budapest Hotel. This sequel to The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel No plot details yet, though if we had to guess, the film would involve a hotel of some sort. They also confirm earlier reports that Johnny Depp will have a role in the film. Looks like the film is shaping up pretty quickly, and we have to imagine that Moonrise Kingdom being such a hit certainly isn’t hurting things.
In the latest bit of speculative scraps, Twitch has learned about some well known actors Wes has supposedly reached out to for Movie #8. We quoth
While it’s hard to say what stage of the process each of these is at at the present, we are told that Anderson is approaching a cast of Johnny Depp, Owen Wilson, Bill Murray, Edward Norton, Jude Law, Jeff Goldblum, Adrien Brody, Willem Dafoe and Angela Lansbury to star in the film.
If this holds any salt, we can be sure that Wilson, Murray, Brody, Dafoe, Goldblum and Norton are on board given their history. The rest, particularly the last, will remain to be seen.
As you may expect, around these parts we read a lot of interviews with Wes Anderson. (A lot of interviews.) But very few are worth posting here– the ground is covered, the same questions are asked, and there’s nothing really to report. However, Fast Co. Create’s recent interview with Wes was interesting because we finally got something new– an inside peek into his writing and directing process.
When asked about his writing process:
“[In writing the script], I want to make more than something you visualize, I want to make something you can sit there and read; you can experience the story.”
[...]
“I like to have a record of something I wrote out there,” says Anderson. Which is why he publishes his scripts. “I’m sure a lot of the people who buy it never read it because you read a few pages and say, ‘Yes, yes, oh yes, I remember all this stuff,’ and then you can kind of move on. But I just like to at least be able to say, ‘Well, it was published and it existed.’” So the Moonrise Kingdom script was recently put out as an e-book by Faber & Faber, [...] And he’s not exactly celebrating the e-book’s brisk sales. “I asked the guys at Faber, ‘How many have we sold?’ and they said, ‘We’ve already sold 100.’” Anderson pauses. “Oh, so, 100. In three months. Wow, that’s great. We’re doing great.”

For those who just can’t get enough of Wes, more information regarding Movie #8 has started to leak out. As previously reported on this blog, the movie will be set in Europe and has been inspired by Wes’s time living there and Owen Wilson will join the cast. But now, Wes has divulged even more:
“In my next film, the main character, who’s a bit crazy, has a personal medium [mind reader] whose assistant is a teenager. I’ll give the roles to more well known actors than the kids [in 'Moonrise Kingdom']. I’m still attached to my favorite actors even if I still don’t know who’ll play the main role in my next film.”
Anderson already revealed he wrote the script on his own, but developed the story with a non-Hollywood friend and a mutual friend of the two served as “the inspiration for one of the main characters.”

According to Dallas News movie writer Chris Vognar, Wes Anderson will “reunite” with Owen Wilson for his next film:
Just got off the phone with Wes Anderson, unwinding from the Cannes Film Festival with some friends in Italy. (Tough life). Moonrise Kingdom, his strongest film in years, is set to open June 1 in Dallas. He feels good about it, but acknowledges something (or someone) is missing. That would be Dallas’ Owen Wilson, an Anderson staple as an actor and a co-writer.
“This is the first movie I’ve made that he hasn’t been directly involved with, although he was around as a friend,” says Anderson, above at Cannes, who became good buddies with Wilson at the University of Texas shortly before they made their first feature, Bottle Rocket. “We started out doing this stuff together in the first place. It’s a family dynamic.”
The good news: Anderson’s current script in progress, a large ensemble piece, has a part for his old friend, and Wilson says he’s in.
Something we missed first time around when we posted that Harper’s Bazaar shoot, the article accompanying the photos contains this bit of information:
Anderson is halfway through another script but will not reveal anything apart from “it’s a film I want to make in Europe, a Euro movie.”
Intriguing. We recall similar rumblings about a “movie in India” a few years before The Darjeeling Limited. Stay tuned.
