oneWes and Jason will discuss Fantastic Mr. Fox at 92Y (200 Hudson Street, NYC) on Tuesday, Nov 10, 2009 at 7:30 pm (link). Tickets are $18.
none92YTribeca and Borders is proud to join forces with Twentieth Century Fox to present an evening of conversation with Wes Anderson (Director) and Jason Schwartzman (voice of “Ash”). In advance of the release of Fantastic Mr. Fox, Wes and Jason will discuss working together on the film, a stop motion animated adaptation of the Roald Dahl novel. In addition to the moderated discussion, you’ll get a sneak peek of clips from the film and the opportunity to participate in audience Q&A. The bar will be open, and books will be for sale, including The Making of Fantastic Mr. Fox by Wes Anderson and the original Dahl novel.

George and Wes – what was the appeal of Fantastic Mr Fox? Why did you want to work on a film, particularly a stop-motion animation, based on that book?
WA: Well, we all grew up with Roald Dahl’s writing. Fantastic Mr Fox was the first book I owned, so it made an impression upon me. I always wanted to adapt the book as stop-motion, using puppets with fur, because there’s something sort of magical about that.
GC: I just did it for the paycheck. The money. [Laughs] But it was also the chance to work with Wes, which really appealed to me.
George, in what ways do you identify with the character of Mr Fox? What did you think of him as a fox?
GC: What I thought of him…as a fox? [Laughs] Well, he’s an optimist, which was really fun to play. I had a lot of fun on the film, working with such a great cast. I didn’t enjoy working with Bill, though. There was a lot of hatred there at first. We’re okay now, though.

noneThe BFI London Film Festival is under way tomorrow, with the world debut of Wes Anderson’s Fantastic Mr. Fox! This is an ongoing post. Watch for updates.
Here is Wes talking about the film and addressing the “directing controversy” (Hollywood Elsewhere):
More with Jason Schwartzman and Bill Murray…

2 comFrom the Associated Press:
noneNEW YORK — “Can I do a flashback?” asks Jason Schwartzman.
The 29-year-old actor and musician is chatting over coffee, sitting in a Manhattan hotel lobby almost Zen-like, but full of questions and curiosity. He clearly relishes conversation, pursuing any tangents with a lively interest:
Words he hates: “vibe, journey and voice.”
The “amazingness” of math: “Logic plus logic equals the illogical. Do you know what I mean?”
The previous night’s Steelers game: “The … has pretty much hit the fan.”
Schwartzman’s storytelling is vibrant, abstract and often not chronological. And at this particular moment, everything seems to relate back to the past.
Schwartzman made his film debut eleven years ago in Wes Anderson’s “Rushmore” as Max Fisher, the spectacled, love-crazed, eminently intrepid teenage misfit — easily one of the most remarkable first stabs at movie acting.
“I can’t express enough to you how bizarre that experience was,” Schwartzman recalls. “It was like a drive-by shooting, but a positive one.”

HBO has made the first episode of it’s new series Bored to Death available on Comcast for free. We’re assuming it’s U.S. only, but we thought we’d pass it along anway. Unfortunately the embed doesn’t seem to be working so you’ll have to go over there to see it.
The show premieres on HBO September 20th at 9:30pm ET.
oneDirector Mark Romanek recently updated his photoblog with a picture of Wes (I assume in London) working on Fantastic Mr. Fox. Mr. and Mrs. Fox seem to be in a cage.
Romanek is in London doing post-production on his own film, out in 2010, that will also be distributed by Fox Searchlight. Full size picture here.

And, apropos of…nothing, here’s a promo video that Jason Schwartzman did for the clothing store Opening Ceremony in which Jason flies a kite, something he’s done before.
With a new TV show premiering in a few weeks, Jason Schwartzman seems to be everywhere in the media, including the pages of a fashion catalogue.

Schwartzman is included in a series of Polaroids for the label Band of Outsiders (named after Godard’s film of the same name). As you may recall we love polaroids, and these Godard inspired ads are pretty great. Also appearing are Marisa Tomei, Sarah Silverman, Kirsten Dunst and Zooey Deschanel among others. See the rest of Jason’s photographs here.
The photos will appear in Band of Outsiders’ fall 2009 book.
