Alamo Cinema Drafthouse rolls into Days Inn Hillsboro (again)

(last year’s poster)

As part of the Second Annual Lovely Soiree at the Bottle Rocket Motel, the Alamo Cinema Drafthouse has added a screening of Bottle Rocket at the Days Inn Hillsboro to their Rolling Roadshow series. The soiree will take place on 21 July this year, and tickets for the screening are $10.

Wes Anderson’s debut feature has long held a special place in our hearts. There are so many reasons to love BOTTLE ROCKET, but mostly we love this heist comedy about a trio of young, shiftless Texans in existential crisis trying in vain to become hardened criminals because it’s damn funny. So, when we heard that the Days Inn on I-35 in Hillsboro, Texas — a major location in the movie — was in danger of shuttering forever we knew we had to step up and join our friends from Reservoir Geeks in their efforts to save the iconic indie film location.

Due to the economic downturn the motel’s business suffered, thus the Save The Bottle Rocket Motel event was born and became reality in July of 2011. An estimate 250 fans took part in the festivities which included a showing of the film, attendance by none other than potential getaway driver himself, Robert Musgrave, and the sale of a limited edition Mondo poster.

Save the Bottle Rocket Motel Event Report Round-up

The efforts to “Save the Bottle Rocket Motel” culminated last Saturday with a fund-raiser screening of the film at the Days Inn in Hillsboro, Texas, sparked by Bottle Rocket fans Andy Carl Valentin and Chris Durbin, and organized by the Alamo Draft House. Bob Musgrave himself showed up to support the effort, and we have several video reports of the event, along with Draft House owner Tim League’s introduction to the film, after the break.
