Wes Anderson’s debut feature has long held a special place in our hearts. There are so many reasons to love BOTTLE ROCKET, but mostly we love this heist comedy about a trio of young, shiftless Texans in existential crisis trying in vain to become hardened criminals because it’s damn funny. So, when we heard that the Days Inn on I-35 in Hillsboro, Texas — a major location in the movie — was in danger of shuttering forever we knew we had to step up and join our friends from Reservoir Geeks in their efforts to save the iconic indie film location.
So, join us on July 9 for a very special Rolling Roadshow presentation of BOTTLE ROCKET on the grounds of the motel where Anthony, Dignan, and Bob hide out in the movie! Plus, “Bob” himself, Mr. Robert Musgrave, will join us in person for the show! And, we’ll have special limited edition posters commemorating the event from Mondo available for sale (with a portion of the proceeds going to support this worthy cause, of course).

Great news. The Alamo Drafthouse is bringing their Rolling Roadshow to the Days Inn-Hillsboro sleepover on July 9th. According to the Dallas Observer Unfair Park blog:
And today, we can officially announce at least one significant bit of breaking news: The Austin-based Alamo Drafthouse has added a Bottle Rocket screening to the July 9 sleepover at the Days Inn in danger of shuttering thanks to franchise fees too big a burden for the motel’s owners…
So. Look for the poster here when it’s available; by then maybe Bob Musgrave will have given me a firm yay on whether he can make the trip down with me that night.

Wes Anderson’s films are often described as containing odd characters, obscure details, exceptional production design, references to other films and prominent use of music. The same thing could be said of a Tarantino film. So what makes Anderson’s films so singular? Why is it, that after a few shots one can instantly identify them as Wes Anderson films? This visual essay aims to look at the roots of Anderson’s style in his first feature film effort “Bottle Rocket”.
