Enter our Sometimes-Annual Wes Anderson Halloween Costume Contest. Thanks to our good friends over at Abrams Books, we are giving away five copies of Matt Zoller Seitz’s marvelous Wes Anderson Collection.

To enter, upload a picture of yourself in your Wes-inspired costume to our Facebook site or tag it as #weshalloween on Twitter. Great Budapest Hotel costumes are strongly encouraged.

By submitting an entry, you:
a) confirm that you are eighteen (18) years of age or older and that it is legal for you to post your picture.
b) give permission to rushmoreacademy.com to post your entry on its public website and Facebook page.

Ralph Fiennes in talks for ‘Grand Budapest Hotel’

With all of the casting confusion the internet is producing, we’re happy to set the record straight and report that both Variety and the Hollywood Reporter (THR) have confirmed Ralph Fiennes is in negotiations for Wes Anderon’s The Grand Budapest Hotel. He’s set to play a character named M. Gustave, who serves as the hotel’s perfectly composed concierge. This role was originally reported to be filled by Johnny Depp, but Wes Anderson denied this two months ago. But Anderson’s frequent cronies Bill Murray, Owen Wilson and Jason Schwartzman are in the cast. Couldn’t imagine an Anderson without them. Fiennes recent projects have been acting alongside Daniel Craig in 007: Skyfall and portraying Charles Dickens in The Invisible Woman.

Also, THR has noted that Murder She Wrote‘s Angela Lansbury is no longer involved with the movie due to commitments to a stage version of the Academy-award winning film Driving Miss Daisy (also a Pulitzer Prize winning play). Lansbury has been performing on stage every year for the past six years. Lansbury will be playing alongside James Earl Jones and will open next year at Her Majesty’s Theater. Tickets will be on sale October 22nd.

The Grand Budapest Hotel is set for release in 2014. Keep checking back at RA.com for more updates.

Wanted: Unpaid interns

Call for contributors/editors

We are currently looking for Wes-obsessed film and culture aficionados to help edit and write contributing news articles and commentary for The Rushmore Academy. These are obviously unpaid positions, and you are responsible for obtaining your own glock. You will earn a line on your resume/CV, and we will be glad to write letters of reference/recommendation on some fancy-smancy letterhead. Contributors will also be recognized with a by-line and on our contributors page.

Blogging and/or writing experience is a plus but not required. E-mail a brief letter of interest, explaining why you are interested in contributing to the Rushmore Academy and what you bring to the (overhead shot) table, to edwardappleby@yankeeracers.org.

Tribute Posters Out of Toronto

Toronto-based artist & designer Ibraheem Youssef has created some gorgeous, clever movie poster redesigns for Wes Anderson films, as well Tarantino films. Youssef produces concise illustrations that fall somewhere between elegant and raw.

The first wave of these redesigns has earned a lot of attention around the internet. We here at Rushmore Academy have also taken note, and an exclusive Rushmore//Youssef surprise is in the works. It’s a cliffhanger, so keep checking back for more details.
